1. Keep your Left hand fingers down

    Try to keep your left hand fingers on the fret while you play the arpeggio. If you get buzzing or muting of strings, make sure you are using the end of your fingers.

2. Use different Right Hand Combinations

    Once you begin getting the piece and making it sound good, use different combinations of fingers. As indicated in the music.

3. Important

    When you see a number in the music by a note, this is not the fret that the note is on but the finger to use to play the note. Many times this is the same but some times it is not. For example in measure 11 the small 4 by the G means to play the note with your 4th finger.

Marking Rubric

A = Changes are smooth

     All notes are clear and correct (Maybe a small buzz)

      Correct right and left hand fingering (always alternating right hand fingers, eg.. I, M, I, M)

      Excellent right hand technique (rest strokes with thumb, free strokes with fingers)

 

B = Changes are a bit slow and sloppy (A small delay or break between chords)

       A couple of wrong notes (1 – 2)

Some mistakes in fingerings (using the 2nd finger on the 3rd fret) (Not using rest stroke with the thumb, sometimes not                     alternating right hand fingers)

       Bit sloppy right hand technique (resting a finger on guitar)

 

C+ = Changes are slow (time between the chords)

      Some wrong notes (3-5)

      Mistakes in fingerings (Not using the proper fingering, not alternating right hand fingers).

      Sloppy right hand technique (resting hand or fingers on the guitar)

 

C = Very sloppy and slow changes (time between the chords, very slow and broken up)

      Many wrong notes (5 – 10)

    Many mistakes with fingerings  (not using rest strokes in the thumb, using a wide variety of right hand fingers to play the piece,  using 1 finger in the left hand to play the piece)

      Very sloppy right hand technique (resting hand and fingers on the guitar, not alternating right hand fingers)

 

C- = Very slow and broken up changes (piece’s rhythm very uneven)

     Wrong notes everywhere (10 + mistakes, student does not know piece)

     Mistakes everywhere with left hand fingerings

     Extremely sloppy right hand technique (resting hand and fingers on the guitar)

    Sound needs improvement

 

D = Song hardly recognizable
