Overview
Students in guitar 5, 6 and 7 will learn how to play classical guitar, read music, play chords and scales. As well, students will
have an introduction to acoustic and electric guitar.


Students need to complete up at and including chapter 11 to fully meet all the PLO’s provided by this book. Completion of
further units would reflect “exceeds expectations” in evaluating student achievement.


Goals
The goals for guitar 5, 6 and 7 are to have a general understanding of guitar. The following material meets the prescribed
learning outcomes from the British Columbia Provincial Music curriculum.

Students in guitar 5, 6 and 7 will learn:
• classical technique in first position
• single note picking technique (e.g., rest stroke/free stroke)
• major and minor (harmonic melodic) scales.
• picking and strumming technique
• acoustic guitar technique
• basic electric guitar technique
• developing intonation (tuning)
• major scales in F, C, G, D, A, and E.
• harmonic progression of the 12 bar blues in keys of E, A, and G using I, IV,
